Brian Kindregan about the plot and the Starcraft universe. Part 2

In the second part of our cycle of articles, Brian Kindregan, one of the main scriptwriters Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty and the main screenwriter Heart of the Swarm, answers questions about the plot of the game that are of the greatest interest for our community.

Question: before meeting with Kerrigan, Jim Reinor already had a family, there was a wife and son. How does it turn out that at the same time Sarah Kerrigan for him is “the only and beloved”?

Answer: And we did not say that she has the only Jim.

For several years, Jim’s affairs went just fine, but he lost everything. A new stage began in his life (and rather, everything returned to his circles), and he picked up the weapon again. The life of a soldier is full of difficulties, and the intensity of passions is just crazy. Jim had strong feelings for Sarah, even loved her, but this did not change his attitude to the family. People mourn about loss, but life continues … in the end.

Question: At the end of Wings of https://betswaggercasino.co.uk/ Liberty, the Empire Arcture Mengsk was on the verge of collapse. Grains absorbed most of the outskirts of worlds and systematically selected for key planets. Reinor revealed to citizens of Dominion the truth that it was Mengsk who had made a genocide on Tarsonis. Rebells and uprisings began to flare up, people took to the streets of all major cities, including Augustrad. Then the son of Arcturus requisition half of the entire cosmoflot, desperately hoping to end the queen of blades. How Mengsk managed to maintain control over the dominion of terrane, despite endless military operations?

Answer: Mengsk held power with the help of a devilishly confusing intrigue, cruelty and good goodness. The threat to his empire by the time Heart of the Swarm has not passed, but he could not occupy ingenuity, and he still has many ways to maintain power. If Roy had begun a full -scale war with terraces or a Kelmori syndicate could collect sufficient forces to attack, then dominion would not resist. Note that Roy attacked the planets only in order to search for an artifact, and after the disappearance of the queen of blades, his unity was violated. As for the Kelmorians, they at that time were completely hard.

Question: How did it happen that Jim Reinor was indifferent to Starcraft and Brood War events? Why does he not want to kill Kerrigan (after all, he knows about the atrocities committed to her)? Jim that, fell in love with her?

Answer: First of all, you need to understand the attitude of Jim to Kerrigan. Of course, Horner, Tykus and the entire Hyperion team saw only a terrible monster in it and wanted to take revenge on the crimes committed. There was no difference for them between Kerrigan and the queen of blades, and for quite a long time I did not see this difference and Jim. But as soon as Valerian told him that Sarah could be saved, Jim had doubts. Maybe in the heart of the ruthless queen of strangers who destroyed entire worlds, there was still something from the “old” Sarah, who cold-blooded destroyed opponents, but did not enjoy the murder? Is it possible? Surely Jim did not know. He has repeatedly seen how Queen Klinkov betrayed her allies, and Valerian did not rely entirely on the venture. So Jim, as always, had to hope for his flair. There was a choice in front of him: to give in hatred of Mengsk and queen of blades or to grab hope and try to change everything. His instinct did not fail him, and he chose the last.

Jim lost too much over his life, much more than any other. That is why he was so attracted to the opportunity to save Kerrigan. He lost his family, friends, ideals, could not interfere with the death of the doomed worlds and thought that Kerrigan was also lost for him irrevocably. But then Jim found out that there was a chance to save her. For the first time he had the opportunity to make up for the loss, for the first time he could correct something, and not just try to do everything possible so that it just gone worse.

Question: How combat units like a mutualisk and banhes are able to move in vacuum?

Answer: Another wonderful question that we discussed among ourselves. Discussion was usually accompanied by fights using furniture. In general, mutualish produces a specific gas that allows it to use reactive traction when discarding part of their own mass. Thus, mutualish can move even in a vacuum due to the traction created by the exhaust of the gas. Although they cannot perform complex maneuvers, mutualish can change the direction of movement.

In the atmosphere of planets, mutalish just use their wings, and the gas is intended exclusively for flights in space. You are wondering why they continue to wave their wings, even when there is no air? It’s all about instincts. In the same way, the dog pulls its hind legs when you scratch his stomach.

As for the combat units of terraces and protosss, the answer is easier. Their equipment is additionally equipped with standard recruiting engines intended exclusively for flights in airless space
