The project is especially aimed at small and independent outlets, lowering barriers to the AI era while creating paths to new revenue and greater accountability in how AI accesses journalistic content. We received a significant number of applications from around the world, 372 to be exact, and the finalists were selected by an independent panel of four experts in the field together with the JournalismAI team.

What it glaringly lacked, though, was support for local news from my own city. Honestly, it felt like one of the worthy alternatives to Google News. For someone in India, the search just continued. When I started my search, the internet kept pointing me toward SmartNews. So when I went looking for alternatives, I was still very much looking for news aggregators. That’s one of the biggest reasons I’ve stuck with Google News so far.
